On the Lake With J.Crew
Last month, Sullivan and Ellis, for the first time since Ellis was born, spent five days with their grandparents in Ohio while Jared and I remained in Nashville. My mom flew in simply to make the drive north with me, and after dropping the boys off, I returned home the very next day. It was one of the best decisions we've made as parents.
Originally, we imagined using this time to travel abroad together. But, for a variety of reasons, we decided instead to take a vacation at home. With our boys settled in Ohio, it felt as though we had escaped somewhere new, only we were able to sleep in our own bed, make our own coffee each morning, keep our pets close, and enjoy long stretches of uninterrupted time together.
I suspect this will become one of my favorite pieces of advice for new parents: if you have trusted family willing to help, carve out time alone with your partner at home. There is something luxurious about experiencing your ordinary life with added spaciousness.
One evening, Jared and I took the boat out onto the lake, where he photographed me wearing J.Crew swimwear. We anchored in a quiet cove, listened to Noah Kahan, and lingered until sunset, grateful for the gift of unhurried time together.
My favorite J.Crew items are right here, as well as below. You can also view more on Instagram here, here, and here.
